A free Wispr Flow alternative for Mac: your voice never leaves the Mac

If you like the idea of Wispr Flow (hold a key, talk, the text lands where your cursor is) but not the weekly word cap, the subscription or sending your voice to a server, VoxFlow Pro for Mac does that one job locally and for free.

Why someone switches away from Wispr Flow

Wispr Flow is a polished product, and its cleanup of filler words and formatting is genuinely useful. The two reasons people look for something else are simple. The free plan stops at 2,000 words a week on desktop, which is roughly two long emails a day for five days. And every word you dictate is sent to a server for transcription. For a doctor's notes, a lawyer's draft or a password you misspoke, that second point matters more than the price.

VoxFlow Pro for Mac takes the opposite trade. It does less: no AI rewrite, no dictionary, no Windows. In return the model runs on your own Mac, there is no account to create, and nothing counts your words.

What using it looks like

The app is signed with a Developer ID issued to BIT Technology s.r.o. and notarized by Apple, so it opens with a normal double click. The download page lists the SHA-256 checksum and the one Terminal command that lets macOS confirm the notarization for you.

Questions

Is there a free Wispr Flow alternative for Mac with no word limit?

Yes. VoxFlow Pro for Mac is free, has no account and no word limit, because transcription runs on your own Mac and there is no server counting words. Superwhisper also has a free tier that runs Whisper models locally. The Wispr Flow free plan was limited to 2,000 words per week on desktop when we checked on 2 October 2026.

Does Wispr Flow work offline?

According to the Wispr Flow privacy page, transcription always happens in the cloud. VoxFlow Pro for Mac transcribes locally with WhisperKit, so it works with Wi-Fi switched off.

What does VoxFlow Pro for Mac not do?

It does not rewrite or reformat your text with AI, it does not transcribe audio or video files, it does not learn a custom dictionary, and version 1.0 has no auto-update. It is not on the Mac App Store, it is a notarized direct download. If you need those features, Wispr Flow, Superwhisper Pro or MacWhisper Pro are the better choice.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. There is no trial timer and no subscription. A voluntary support button exists on the download page and changes nothing about the app.
