Many of the new voice typing apps for Mac are built for Apple Silicon. Some will not install on an Intel MacBook or iMac at all, others install but recommend cloud transcription there because their offline models run slowly on Intel. If your Mac has an Intel chip and runs macOS 14 Sonoma or later, VoxFlow Pro for Mac gives you hold-to-talk dictation into any app, transcribed on your Mac, for free. Below is what each popular option says about Intel Macs on its own website.

A dash means the maker's page does not say, or the row does not apply. VoxFlow Pro for Mac has no cloud option at all and works with Wi-Fi off.
Plenty of Intel MacBook Pros and iMacs from 2018 to 2020 run macOS 14 Sonoma and still work well for writing, email and documents. Their owners often find out at the download step that a recommended dictation app needs Apple Silicon, or that it works but only with cloud transcription. VoxFlow Pro for Mac was built as a universal app so the same 1.9 MB download runs on both chips and keeps your speech on the Mac. How fast it transcribes depends on your Mac, and because it is free you can simply try it on yours.
VoxFlow is signed with a Developer ID issued to BIT Technology s.r.o. and notarized by Apple, and the download page lists the SHA-256 checksum.

Yes. VoxFlow Pro for Mac is a universal app that runs on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 14 or later and always transcribes on your Mac with WhisperKit, with no internet connection. MacWhisper also works on Intel Macs, though its maker warns performance on older Intel Macs can be bad.
No. On 12 October 2026 VoiceInk's website said it works only on Apple Silicon Macs and requires macOS 14.4 or later.

Nothing. VoxFlow Pro for Mac is free with no paid tier, no account and no license key. You hold a key, speak and release, and the text is typed into the app you are in. It does not rewrite your text with AI.
